MESA Metrics Research

MESA has a long-standing commitment to understanding performance metrics for manufacturing companies. MESA started with its first research study, MESA Metrics that Matter, in 2006 along with a MESA Metrics Guidebook; we generated new research Metrics for Major Initiatives in 2007 and new metrics definitions and calculations for Creating a Holistic Performance Program in 2008. The MESA Metrics working group continues to drive to new research, with a major new study Correlating Plant Performance to Business Performance, launching in mid-2009. MESA's new multi-year research program includes several facets and we have both a joint steering committee and individual groups working on specific aspects of the research.

Major objectives include:

  • Show trends for progress on metrics
  • Benchmark performance
  • Justify system investments
  • Link operations to financial improvements
  • Support strategic initiatives (MSI Guidebooks)
  • Create best practices guidance

We welcome all MESA members to participate in this important work.

MESA Eco-Efficiency in Manufacturing Research

MESA has announced the launch of Eco-efficiency in Manufacturing, a major study of the strategies and approaches being used to support sustainability initiatives. The study is open to all manufacturers around the globe in all product sectors. The study will culminate in a report to the industry to be presented at MESA's North American Conference, June 21-23 in Dearborn, MI. Interested manufacturing personnel can take the survey online

MESA, with members in 78 countries around the world, remains committed to its mission to share manufacturing's best practices. Inspired by the growing global focus on climate change and carbon emissions, this study will explore the green and sustainability initiatives now underway in the manufacturing sector.

The study seeks to report on the current state of manufacturing including the leadership and information technology systems that companies are using to drive high performance, eco-efficient operations; identifying the change drivers, as well as, the barriers encountered for those companies making a green transformation; and qualifying and quantifying the initiatives underway and resources being applied to improve supply chain, product lifecycle, and asset management practices.

Participants are assured of complete anonymity. All responses will be aggregated in the published data and reports and no individual or company names will be included. Each respondent will gain access to the survey database, thus giving them an opportunity to compare and benchmark against companies with similar profiles.

Further information is available here.

MESA is distributing this announcement through web and print media. In keeping with the times and with the growth in social networking and media, this news release and associated links will also be promoted through selected LinkedIn groups, one of which has over 72,000 members. Another group related to supply chain and procurement practices have more than 40,000 members.
